My take on Creativity

This morning, while waking up and scrolling through my phone, I saw a message from someone. It read something like: “Wow, you’re such an artist. You’re so talented. I wish I had something like that.”

As I stood in the shower, I started to really think about it—and came to the conclusion: there is no such thing as an artist.

The Misperception of the “Artist”

When we use the word artist, we often describe someone with extraordinary skill, someone who can create beauty through music, painting, design, or any other medium. We tend to believe that some people are “born artists,” blessed with talent at birth.

But from my perspective, that belief is pure nonsense. Every single human being born into this world is already an artist. Every child creates naturally. The only reason we stop is because, as we grow up, our creativity gets chipped away piece by piece.

We’re told to fall in line, to behave a certain way, to do what society expects. We learn what’s “right” and what’s “wrong.” Slowly, that raw creativity—the natural expression of our individuality—gets suppressed.

Creativity Is Our Natural State

Being an artist isn’t about painting canvases or composing symphonies. It’s about living in tune with yourself. If you’re true to your individuality, if you express your authentic self, then everything you do becomes creative.

The way you walk.
The way you dress.
The way you cook, eat, drive, or even plan your day.

Every action can carry an artistic touch when it flows from your natural self.

The problem is that most people confuse skill with artistry. Yes, technical skill can make an expression more polished—but without spirit, it’s empty. A perfectly executed painting without soul is lifeless. A flawless piece of music without authenticity feels hollow.

Sensitivity: The Root of Artistry

To be creative, you must also allow yourself to be sensitive. Sensitivity is the birthplace of artistry, yet it’s often dismissed as weakness. How many times have you heard: “Don’t be so sensitive”?

But sensitivity is actually one of the most precious gifts you can cultivate. It allows you to feel deeply, to express honestly, and to bring spirit into your work. Unfortunately, it’s also the first thing society tries to destroy in us as children.

The Myth of Talent

Many people fall into the “talent trap.” They assume others are simply born with artistic abilities. But let’s dissect this.

Talent is nothing more than a small natural inclination. Maybe a pianist with large hands finds it easier to reach the keys. But does that automatically make them a great musician? Not at all.

Compare them to someone with smaller hands who practices daily and pours their soul into every note. Who do you think creates more beautiful melodies? It’s not the one with the advantage—it’s the one who combines skill with spirit.

Skill is technical. You can learn it through repetition. Spirit, however, comes from living authentically and standing in your truth. And when spirit and skill meet, art is born.

Everyone Is an Artist

So the real question isn’t whether you are an artist or not. The question is: have you allowed your creativity to be cultivated—or was it shut down early in life?

If you don’t feel creative right now, it doesn’t mean you’re not an artist. It just means that part of you has been dormant. The good news is—it can be awakened. At any time.

When you start listening to yourself, when you begin living according to your own truth, everything you do will have an artistic quality. Not because you’ve become an artist, but because you’ve rediscovered your natural way of being.

Final Thought

The next time you think, “I’m not creative” or “I don’t have talent”, pause and question that belief. Creativity is not reserved for a chosen few. It is your birthright.

Every human being is an artist.
The only difference is whether you choose to live in tune with yourself—or not.
